Fiona (Karefree Topspot Crown's Irish Miss) was bred to Maks (U-CH Rim Rock Stocklore Mystic Maks) in late May and puppies are expected the end of July. Maks is only one of 8 Dalmatians worldwide that is homozygous dominant for the desirable LUA (SLC2A9) gene so all the puppies in this litter will be LUA. Day 3
Yesterday was a busy day for the pups with a visit to the vet and the start of the Super Puppy exercises.Vet Visit
Fiona and the pups went to the vet yesterday to get a quick check up and for the pups to have their dew claws removed. The doctor gave everyone a clean bill of health and we scheduled the next visit to get the pups their first shots.Super Puppy Exercises
I began giving the puppies the Super Puppy Exercises yesterday. These are a series of neurological stimulation exercises that are designed to get the neurological system into action earlier than normally expected. The benefits of early stimulation were shown to be improved cardio vascular performance, stronger heart beats, stronger adrenal glands, more tolerance to stress and greater resistance to disease. For more information see - http://breedingbetterdogs.com/pdfFiles/articles/early_neurological_stimulation_en.pdf

Day 2
Turns out getting those head shots of the pups is a bit more difficult than I imagined. I finally managed to succeed today so here they are:First the 2 girls -
Girl 1
Girl 2
Now the boys -
Patch Boy 1
Patch Boy 2
And now the other four boys -
Boy 3
Boy 4
Boy 5
Boy 6
There they are. I hope you like the pictures. We are going to call this the Star Trek litter and eventually name the puppies after characters from the various series of Star Trek.
More to come. Tomorrow looks to be a very busy day for the pups.

I took Fiona to the vet Monday to get a radiograph so we would know exactly how many puppies to expect. Well it turns out that getting this done is not nearly as an exacting process as I thought. The vet said he could definitely see 6 and something that could possibly be another and OBTW she's carrying them up high so another could be hiding up there and then her tummy is full so another could be hiding back there too. That's just so precise that I can't stand it.
So we wait and see. In any case the nursery awaits:
Now all I have to do is convince Fiona that she wants to get in there and check it out. She says she'd rather hang out with Guin.

Notice the green stains on Guin's face? I planted 2 cherry tomatoes for the dogs in my back yard and they nose around in them to find the tomatoes. In the process wind up with green faces but they have a great time and love the tomatoes.
